祖国强则移民地位高？加拿大在乌克兰752航班在伊朗被击落的作为驳斥这一说法

某些来自中国大陆的第一代移民认为他们是否能在移民国扬眉吐气地生活取决于他们祖国的“强大”。因此，如果他们的祖国弱小，贫穷，且与移民国外交关系紧张，那么他们就会被居住的移民国视为二等公民，遭到轻视，忽视甚至系统性歧视。但加国对752航班事件的处理让我们看到这种观点完全站不住脚。

Some immigrants from China believe that a life with dignity and respect in the adopted country hinges on the power and strengths attained by their motherland. Therefore, if their home country is poor, weak, and lack of strong ties with their adopted country, the immigrants would live as a second-class citizen, vulnerable to being slighted, neglected and systematically discriminated in the country they choose to live.  But Canada’s handling of flight 752 victims proves the arguments deadly wrong.

Most of the 52 passengers who died in the crash were the first generation of Iranian Canadians. But their source country Iran is suffering an economic crisis, with scarce jobs, price of necessities skyrocketing.  Its regime’s support for terrorism and the rogue nuclear program has made it the second most hated country in the world. Amid the escalation tension between Iran and Canada, the Harper government severed the diplomatic ties with Iran in 2012, closing its embassy in Tehran and expelling all Iranian diplomats from Ottawa.

但伊朗丑恶的国际形象和与加国恶化的国际关系却对生活在加国的伊朗移民没有造成丝毫影响。伊朗加国移民们既没有因此沦为二等公民也没有遭到加国社会的整体歧视。尽管渥太华对德黑兰没有好脸色，但这却没影响到伊朗移民在加国的地位，他们仍像加国其他族裔一样，在加国享受多元文化社会提供的平等和尊重。

But Iran’s weak international profile and its deteriorating relations with Canada have cast no shadow on the well beings of Iranian immigrants living in Canada. It has neither degraded them into lower-class citizens nor left them subject to discrimination by the Canadian society. Despite the hostile relations between Ottawa and Tehran, Iranian Canadians enjoy the equality and respects that the multicultural society has to offer to all immigrants into the country.

The tragic crash of flight 752 has put the Iranian Canadians’ valued rights and dignity in the front and center. In the aftermath of the crash, Ottawa sent delegates to Iran to join the investigation and to provide consulate services to victims’ families, while furiously condemning Iran for shooting down the plane. It has fought with the Iranian government over the recognition of the victims’ dual citizenship, vowing to advocate for the rights of the victim’s families. PM Trudeau also pledges financial support, offering $25000 for the costs of traveling and funeral services. Canadians grieve the tragic loss of the victims as the members of their own, providing the Iranian community with an outpouring of love and support to help it heal the pain.



加国人士悲痛地悼念57名伊朗加国死难者，因为他们与来自于其他国家的加国移民一样都有一个加国梦，并立志在加国打造一份美满幸福的生活。许多死难者都是在加国辛苦谋生，追求一份成功的事业并为加国经济繁荣做出显著贡献的人士。他们是遍布加国各大院校的学生，他们是医生，工程师和企业家。

Canadians mourn the devastating losses of the 57 Iranian Canadians, who like most immigrants in Canada, were holding a Canadian dream and striving to make the best lives in Canada as possible. Most victims died in the crash were hardworking Canadians building a successful life in Canada and making significant contributions to the prosperity of the Canadian society. They are students in universities across Canada, pursuing a professional career. They are doctors, engineers, and entrepreneurs.

渥太华正是本着加国多元文化社会的族裔平等之精神替死难者撑腰，为他们讨回公道和提供关怀和慰籍的。而正是伊朗移民们在加国移民征程中洒下了血汗，他们在加国取得了功绩和成就，以及他们对加国的爱让他们赢得了加国大众的尊敬和敬佩。

 It was the racial equality that the multicultural society Canada embraces that allows the Canadian government to stand on behalf of the victims to seek justice and bring closure.  It was the sweats, blood and tears that paved their immigrant journey, their success and achievements, and their sense of belongings to Canada that had earned respect and dignity from the Canadian public.



752航班的经历显示加国热情拥戴来自各国的移民群体，不管他们的族裔背景如何，也不管他们来自哪个国家地区。大陆移民们应该对此铭记在心。

The crash of Flight 752 reveals that Canada embraces all newcomers with love and respect, regardless of their ethnic profile or the country they hailed from -- the fact that immigrants from China should take notice.
