These threats have extended into the scientific fields, leaving many Chinese Canadian researchers caught between geopolitical tensions. Some have leaked critical research information under the manipulation of the Chinese government, while others have faced overreaching reactions from the US and Canadian governments. Economic coercion, business sanctions, and political interference actions create divides within our community. Differing views on China’s policies lead to tensions and mistrust, while disinformation campaigns polarize opinions and destabilize the social fabric. During Canada's 2021 federal election, misinformation targeted at the diaspora community aimed to sway opinions and influence voting behaviors, deepening societal rifts.

Moreover, living under these threats can have significant psychological implications, leading to increased anxiety, stress, and a general sense of insecurity.

In the face of these evolving threats, we must stay informed, support one another, and build alliances with other ethnic and activist groups to ensure the safety of our community. These challenges also demand that Chinese Canadians become more politically active and engaged in advocating for policies that counter foreign influence.
